Edificio construido en 1972 durante el gobierno de Salvador Allende para recibir a la Tercera Conferencia Mundial de Comercio y Desarrollo. Fue posteriormente usado como sede cultural y desde 1973 como centro operativo de la Junta Militar de Augusto Pinochet. Con el retorno a la democracia, albergó congresos y encuentros, hasta que en el 2006, un incendio destruyó gran parte de este. La reconstrucción apuntó a devolverle su función original, que se concreta en el 2010 con la reinauguración como Centro Cultural Gabriela Mistral, dando cabida a exposiciones, cursos, teatro y música.
The Centro Cultural Gabriela Mistral was built in 1972 during the presidency of Salvador Allende in order to house the Third United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. Later it was used as cultural center and from 1973 as operative center for the Military Council by Dictator Augusto Pinochet. After the return of democracy in 1989 it was used for rallies and conferences until a fire destroyed part of the building. The reconstruction aimed to restore the original cultural center once lost and was inaugurated in 2010 as Centro Cultural Gabriela Mistral. The building now offers a wide range of activities such as, courses, exhibitions, theater, music and much more.
